报告题目:An Actor-centric View of Leader (Un)Ethicality: Empirical Evidence and A Conceptual Model

报告摘要:

In this talk, Professor Wang will discuss two papers to present an actor-centric view of leader (un)ethicality. The first paper introduces and tests a model of contingent consequences of ethical leadership with two experiences and one field study. Findings from these three studies point to a problematic leadership paradox: when leaders higher in narcissism behave more ethically, they incur higher motivational costs and reap fewer social benefits compared to their peers who are lower in narcissism. Results reveal risks to leadership effectiveness for narcissistic leaders who attempt to lead more ethically. The second paper introduces a conceptual model based on patterns of leader (un)ethicality over time. Central to the theory is a typology of leader moral self-regulation process based on two key dynamic dimensions of leader (un)ethical behaviors – whether the change is consistent or not and whether the change is upward or downward. This typology integrates moral balancing and moral consistency views of leader (un)ethicality and theorizes on how leaders regulate their (un)ethical behaviors over time. Implications for theory and practice are discussed.


报告人简介:

       王未,现任职于加拿大曼尼托巴大学阿斯博商学院,是管理学助理教授。王教授的研究通过多样化的方法(如问卷追踪调研、实验室实验、实地/现场实验、事取样调研等)去研究领导力、商业伦理等课题。他曾在Journal of Applied PsychologyJournal of ManagementAnnual Review of Organizational Behavior and Organizational Psychology等国际顶级学术期刊上发表研究成果,并获得多个科研及教学奖项,其中包括2019年商业伦理学会 “新锐学者奖”(Emerging Scholar Award)2020年梁觉博士论文提案奖、2022年徐淑英 ‘敢于关怀奖’ (Dare to Care Award) 等。
